Adverb Basics

Adverb: modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. Basically, an adverb tells how, when, where, or to what extent (how much or how long). We NEED adverbs or else writing is boring.

Examples: Where are you going? When will they return?

Adverbs modify verbs
Example: Kirk performed magnificently.

Adverbs modify adjectives
Example: The players on the DHS football team are exceptionally skillful.

Have you ever played the game "After the Manner of the Adverb"? It is quite hilarious!

That game sounds fun Lara. What is it like and where do you get it?

It isn't a game you can buy, it is kind of a spin off of charades. It is one of those "Single's Ward" games, although I have played it many a time with family. You just send someone out of the room and while they are out the group picks an adverb. Then the person comes back in and they start asking people from the group to do things "after the manner of the adverb". For example, "Josh, ask Sarah out on a date after the manner of the adverb". After the performance they try to guess what the adverb is. They keep asking people to do things until they guess the adverb correctly. If you are into performance-type games it is a fun one.
