KP Blues

I have the worst KP right now and it's really getting me down. If you don't know, it's those irritating red bumps on the back of your arms and sometimes on your legs, not everyone has it and not everyone knows what it is but everyone has seen it before, especially on people with sensitive skin. I used to spend a lot of money on Dermadoctor's KP Duty that I bought off Amazon but I found it was too expensive to maintain, so I switched to AmLactin that I got at Walgreens but it hasn't been as effective at treating my KP since I had my baby. Weird, yet true. So I'm looking at the Internet for solutions. I can't believe entire websites are dedicated to this annoying skin ailment.

What do you do for KP? Does anyone know of anything that really gets rid of it? I've spent an hour online trying to find creams/treatments that are around $20 and all of them are $20 - $100. I just need to find something cheaper so I can maintain it. I don't know if this would help my KP, but in my search I did like the Dove website because on the right-hand side of the page, you can click on "Product Finder" Steps 1-2 and I found that they do have a body wash and a body lotion that may help with KP based on the other info. I found. For step 1, select "body wash" and step 2, select "exfoliate." I've already tried the gentle exfoliating and it doesn't work for KP but maybe I should try the proage. Aside from Dove, here's some general info. I found on KP: http://www.helpforkp.com/

I totally have this... I didn't know there was a name for it though-- I have it on the back of my arms, my thighs, and along the lower portion of my face. My 2nd daughter has it too. However, I don't feel like it has ever bothered me... I use Eucerin on my body, I have always felt like keeping hydrated helps-- let me know if you ever find anything that works! From what I've read today though, it sounds like there's no cure :( Boo!

I have this too! It was really bad when I was a kid. Recently I started using Nivea's My Silhouette Redefining Gel-Cream for reason's unrelated to KP. It is supposed to tighten your skin and help redefine your silhouette :) (with proper diet and exercise of course). I don't usually go for products like that, but I saw some very convincing results on a talk show so decided to try it out just for kicks. I haven't noticed a lot going on with my silhouette, but I have noticed incredible things happening with my skin. My skin has seemed much more smooth and those annoying little red bumps seem to have diminished significantly. So I don't know if I can give the credit to Nivea or not, but I would say it is worth a try. The lotion gel-cream is $12 a bottle by the way, not super cheap, but definitely cheaper than the things you have been looking at. Good luck!

Lara, that sounds good. What are the ingredients? Does it have glycolic acid in it? If so, what percentage?

I've heard that taking Vitamin A helps. If you take Vitamin D with it it will help your body utilize the Vitamin A.

(This is Angelique)

No, I didn't find glycolic acid in the ingredients list.

Hey Angelique, can the vitamin A & D come from my multi-vitamin? Or have you heard that I need to take it on top of my multi?

I have this - My holistic doc suggested I take more vitamin B and put a cream lotion on it. The cream didn't work very well (from the drugstore). I started using Hemp lotion and my arms are smoother than they have ever been.

Yes, it is important to remember that any skin problem is a symptom not the problem itself. KP is a result of a deficiency in vitamin A. Vitamin A is one of those tricky fat soluble vitamins that require other vitamins to be properly assimilated. You can topically treat the condition but as soon as you stop the treatment you will see an increase in the condition and that is because you are not treating the cause, but the symptom. It is also why the condition worsens during or after pregnancy and during nursing, etc...it is because your body becomes even more deficient as it struggles to support an additional life. The best way to address the issue is with supplementing with high quality Cod Liver Oil, Omega 3 oil and Flax Seed Oil. Barleans is a wonderful local company that sells all of these. The easiest way to take oils if you haven't before is to mix them all into a smoothie and drink it down. I am able to just put it on a spoon and swallow it but some people can't handle that.

Cool. I have some Flaxseed Oil capsules in the freezer. I just swallow them frozen and then chug water. Sounds gross when I say it like that huh.
